What is PMI PgMP exam?

The PMI PgMP exam is a certification exam offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI) for individuals who have significant experience in program management. PgMP stands for Program Management Professional.


The certification exam tests the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to manage multiple, related projects and programs to achieve strategic goals and objectives. It covers five domains:

To be eligible to take the PMI PgMP exam, candidates must meet certain education and experience requirements. They must have at least four years of project management experience and four years of program management experience (or a Bachelor's degree and six years of program management experience), as well as pass a panel review of their program management experience.


Earning the PgMP certification demonstrates an individual's advanced level of expertise and competence in program management, and can lead to career advancement opportunities in this field.

The PMI PgMP exam covers five domains, which are as follows:


Program Strategy Alignment: This domain covers the processes and activities required to ensure that the program is aligned with the organization's overall strategy, vision, and mission. This includes developing a program strategy, assessing program feasibility, and aligning the program with business objectives.


Program Benefits Management: This domain covers the processes and activities required to identify, define, and measure the benefits of the program, and ensure that they are realized. This includes developing a benefits realization plan, monitoring benefits, and making adjustments as needed.


Program Stakeholder Engagement: This domain covers the processes and activities required to identify, engage, and manage program stakeholders, including sponsors, customers, and team members. This includes developing a stakeholder engagement plan, managing stakeholder expectations, and resolving stakeholder conflicts.


Program Governance: This domain covers the processes and activities required to establish and maintain a program governance structure that ensures the program is managed effectively and efficiently. This includes defining program governance roles and responsibilities, developing program policies and procedures, and monitoring program performance.


Program Life Cycle Management: This domain covers the processes and activities required to manage the program life cycle from initiation to closure. This includes developing a program management plan, managing program scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, and procurement, as well as managing program resources and communication.
